I have to admit that I’m pretty excited about this event. Lots of goodies, giveaways, and fun!

I decided to join this blog hop because it combines my three favorite things: reading, cooking, and gardening. I can hardly wait for spring to arrive so that I can get outside and start digging in the dirt. It seems like this winter has lasted forever! So let’s get down to it.

My Favorite Recipe

This is my mom’s recipe. I’m always begging her to make it for any and every occasion.

CHEESY SCALLOPED POTATOES

1 large can Cream of Celery Soup

1 jar of Cheez Whiz

1 can of sweet peas

8 potatoes (peeled, chopped, and boiled until tender)

Combine all the ingredients in a crockpot and set to low heat. Let cook until the cheese is melted (about 2 hours). Stir occasionally.

Or – place in a 9×13 buttered baking pan and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for one hour or until cheese is bubbly.

My Favorite Gardening Tip

Even though I live in town, my yard is a host to bunnies and other kinds of critters who love to feast on my flowers. To keep the furry nibblers away, try this tip.

RABBIT REPELLENT

1 bar of fragrant soap (I’ve found that Irish Spring works best)

1 Potato peeler

Shave the soap around the plants. I’m not sure why but it’s the only thing I’ve found that works. It also keeps deer away as well. My farmer friends recommend blood meal. I tried that and it works too, but it creeps me out. It also disappears whenever it rains. The soap will last longer.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the rest of the blog hop.

What a great, simple idea to deter rabbits. If you know of a similar deterrent for cats using my garden as their toilet, let me know πŸ™‚

I never heard of the soap trick, but its a great tip! I always have small pieces of soap left over that is to small to use I can start putting in my garden to help with furry pests.

I have a stray cat that likes to lay in my yard too I wonder if it will get rid of her lol

Great eco-friendly bunny tip! I have tried soap shavings before to deter wildlife and it does work! πŸ˜‰ I also cut my son’s hair outside in nice weather and sprinkle it around the plants. That seems to keep them away too. Now if only the slugs were so easily deterred…

What a marvelous sounding recipe for scalloped potatoes. First time I’ve ever heard of using Cheez Whiz and peas in them…but hey, don’t knock it…right?

Although I try to convince myself that the rabbit leavings are fertilizer, it’s pretty gross when the snow leaves. I will have to try this. Thanks. And we love potatoes. lisalickel-at-yahoo.com
